CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is a language used to manage the visual appearance of markup language documents such as HTML, XML, XHTML, SVG, and XUL.
HTML attributes were initially used to specify the visual presentation of HTML however, HTML 4 deprecated these attributes since CSS was developed to remove control of the visual presentation from content. While working at CERN alongside Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who created a web browser and invented HTML, HÃ¥kon Wium Lie originally suggested Cascading HTML Style Sheets in October 1994.
