Delphi is a general-purpose programming language that allows for the quick creation of native Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS, and Android apps.

The word was initially used to refer to the Delphi language. Still, the developers opted to return to the language's original name, Object Pascal, limiting the moniker to the IDE, which is used to assist edit and debugging Delphi applications more effectively.

Embarcadero created it, and it is available as a standalone product or as part of RAD Studio, which also contains additional languages.

Delphi extends Niklaus Wirth's Pascal programming language (and Object Pascal).

Borland created Delphi in 1995 as an evolution of Turbo Pascal. Embarcadero presently owns it, and it is the second-largest Windows development platform behind Microsoft's .NET.
