ActionScript is an object-orientated programming language by Macromedia (now dissolved into Adobe Systems). Its ultra-modern model is ActionScript 3.

It is used to create net applications (including RIAs), computing device applications, and cellular applications. The net goal is to serve the Adobe Flash Player runtime users as the computing device, and cellular goals are to serve the users of the Adobe AIR (formerly Adobe Integrated Runtime).

Popular IDEs are Adobe Animate (rebranded from Adobe Flash), Adobe Flash Builder, FlashDevelop, IntelliJ, etc.

Some famous compilers are Adobe Animate, Apache Flex, Haxe, OpenFL, etc.

In addition, Adobe Scout and FlashFirebug may be used to debug the Adobe AIR and the Adobe Flash Player runtimes.
