for working in windows subsystem for lynux enter the following:
rsync -r work_server:location_of_work /mnt/c/directory_to_store

Rsync

#from hpc to local
rsync -chavzP --stats user@remote.host:/path/to/copy /path/to/local/storage

#local to hpc 
rsync -chavzP --stats /path/to/local/storage user@remote.host:/path/to/copy
